Keeping with the Times

Posted by Arsanthania on November 8, 2011 at 9:00 PM Comments comments (9)

Hello, all, this is Arsanthania, Retro's new moderator/partner. I'll be helping him with the upkeep of this site, and the future site, as well as aiding in the organization of classes and projects.

This brings me to the biggest point that I have.  GameMaker.  Now, I know that some of you are saying "Why are they raising the price?" and "It's a scam."  Well, I'll just have you know that this is one of my BIGGEST pet peeves.  GameMaker, at the full price of HTML5, when it is officially out of Beta, will be $199. I feel that this is the worth of the product as it stands, as HTML5 will have WebGL capacity in the near future, and will be able to do everything that GM8.1 Standard can do, but with the ability for the games to be set directly into a browser.  That alone would have charged you much more than $199, even for a comparable product.

Thus my second point, and the follow up.  GM8.1 standard is currently $40, a steal by all comparison to other products of equal merit.  GMHTML5 Beta is currently $99, also a steal for what it can do and what it does and will be able to do.  If you are thinking about purchasing either of these products, now is the time to do so. I believe the price for GM 8.1 Standard is finalized, but HTML5 Beta will only be within beta for a relatively short period of time. If you are even considering buying HTML5 at this juncture, now is the time to do it.

Another thing. Any coders who want to work with me on the projects I will be spearheading, and want to access the game maker files directly need both DropBox, and GM8.1 or GMHTML5. These are fairly interchangable as HTML5 can import .gm81 files as well as export them.

I know this sounds like an add for GameMaker, but it's not. I'm simply telling it as I see it, and as it is. I realize that money is tight, and I myself don't have much for extra money, but it really doesn't take that long to save up $40, and if you have any kind of a decent paying job, $99 is a cinch.  It may be possible in the future, if GMG is successful, that we can give away free liscences to people who we feel deserve them. however, at the moment, neither RetroWorld or I have enough spare cash to give away such things.

And if anyone even starts saying that GM8 is better than GM8.1, I will throttle him. GM8.1 is currently far, far more stable than GM8 EVER was.

'k. I'm done.

I added a donation button for anyone kind enough to donate to this website so we could get a new host and domain name. Also these donations will also go for advertisments and maybe pay people who will be working on the new game engine when we get started.

Site updated

I am still having trouble trying to get funded to get our own hosting service, so I thought that I could just update the site but leave it as it is. So I have made some modifications and put old posts and a thread called old.

I think that this site is good enough to start again so I am going to do some more advertisments to get more members to the site.

Also there is a new project open for everyone willing to join. it is in class three.

Sorry everyone that I haven't been active at all. The reason why is because I am doing so much school work as it is my last year and I have this week to revise and next week are the exams. after that, I will be back for some new cool things and I promise to get everyone back and involved in lots of fun new projects.

for now, I will stay silent in the dark, revising.
